Visions of the Night.

ACAB, originally uploaded by mithering.

Sting, the bloke who did the theme tune for The Equalizer, and The Other One, immortalised in paint. Kendal Town FC clubhouse, 21 Feb 2009. There's something of the Mort Drucker's about this drawing...

The Wanderer.

He's back. Arndale Peregrine spotted yesterday atop the 'E' of Arndale. Does this mean that Spring is now on its way?

Pictures of Match Stick Men II

Continuing the theme of 'cover versions' of comic artists, here's Dik Browne's Hagar The Horrible advertising the appropriately horrible Skol lager, and Reg Smythe's incorrigible Andy Capp. I'm cheating with Andy, though, as this is a representation of an Avon bubble-bath container from the 70s rather than a straight interpretation of Smythe's line work.

Andy Capp

You can see both of these in Jim Medway's charming installation 'The New Inn' at Common in Manchester until May 18th of this year. More information on how to get there and get reduced price food and drink here: http://www.aplacecalledcommon.co.uk/

Magazine - A Song from under the Floorboards Oxford 10/02/09

Off to see them in MCR tomorrow night. Not usually one for reunion gigs, but had a ticket (and a lift!) to see them when Magic, Murder and The Weather came out but then they went and split up, so I'm owed this one.

Thanks to frenzbob on YouTube for uploading this.

Bus Stop.

Returning to an earlier obession in this blog, I'm starting to believe I've been bitten by a radioactive bus driver. My superhero power fantasy is coming true. The past five times I've had to take the bus, I've seen my quarry coming, run for it and got on. Five times in a row. Tonight's takes the biscuit, though. After leaping through the closing doors, my cape just scraping through, the driver wouldn't take my money and told me to sit down. It was a busy bus. I got up again to pay him when the bus stopped at some lights. He made me sit down again. I bided my time and, on leaving the vehicle, offered him the spare £2.50. He waved me away and off the bus. Me, Bus Stop Man!

The Cramps - Green Fuzz - Mudd Club NYC 1981 - RIP Lux Interior

As chance would have it I had encoded this concert last night with a view to uploading bits of it as and when. Then in the pub today my eyes alighted on Lux Interior's obituary in The Independent. Time to dig out Smell of Female, methinks.

Wok This Way.

No pretty picture for this one. On the way into work today I cut around the back of Salford University. On one side of the path there was a hill which sloped violently down. Following yesterday's snow fall there was evidence of the local youth having used it for sledging; deep, muddy, furrows were cut into the grass in vertical lines. Their transportation was still there. An inflatable li-lo, a non-stick baking tray, a retail bread tray (Greenhalgh's) and, most resourceful of all, a wok.
